  ARCHEOLOGICAL SITES AND CULTURAL TOURS
Turkana Expeditions Special 10 Days safari

Day 1: Nairobi- Songor
Depart from Nairobi to Songor in the rift valley basin via Hyrax hill museum, Fort tenan archeological site a middle Miocene aged. Continue with the safari to Songor, which is a small but rich site notable for its diversity of fossils in primates like proaimians. Over night in a camp site.

Day 2: Songor-Ngorora
After break fast, depart for Ngorora via Chesowaga where tools from the beds consist of core tools and flakes of Oldowan type. Over night will be at Ngorora site camping where you will be informed about the importance of the site.

Day 3: Ngorora – Kanapoi.
Start the journey early enough to arrive in Kanapoi in time. The site is another early Miocene site dated 5-4 million years ago (MYA). Specimens of earliest Austrepithecine, Austrepithecus anamansis were found. Over night in a camp site.

Day 4: Kanapoi – Logatham
Depart for Logatham, which is a bout 70 miles from Kanapoi. It’s a late Miocene to Pliocene site. Exposed sediments have yielded a rich and diverse 6-5 MYA old vertebrate assemblage from a succession of levels including an adult Hominid mandible fragments with first molar. Over night in a camp site.

Day 5: Logatham- Koobi Fora
This site is located on the Eastern side of Lake Turkana, which is also known as the Jade Sea. Koobi Fora is one of the world's leading prehistoric sites for the study of human evolution where a skull of Homo habilis (KNM-ER-1470), one of the earliest recognised species of the genus Homo was discovered. This has lead Kenya to be known as the “cradle of mankind”. Over night in a camp site.

Day 6: Full Day In Sibiloi National Park
Explore the Turkana land including a visit to the lake where we find the great Nile perch, the fierce Tiger fish and the world largest single concentration of crocodiles and Turkana homestead. Over night in a camp site

Day 7: Turkana – Samburu Hills
Drive through the semi arid area of northern Kenya, meeting the pastoralist groups arriving in Samburu hills for overnight stay with a visit to their villages.

Day 8: Samburu – Nairobi
Depart for Nairobi arriving at the hotel at noon where you will spend the rest of the day. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Boulevard.

Day 9: Olorgasaile
After break fast depart for Olorgasaile which is a few kilometers from the main city. The site has yielded several maser concentrations of hand axes, cleavers and other stone artifacts belonging to the Acheulian traditions. Remains of many animals have also been found. Over night stay in a Nairobi hotel.

Day 10: Departure
Full day in Nairobi with a visit to the National museum Karen Blixen museum and Bomas of Kenya. Latter in the evening we transfer you to the airport for your flight home after completing the mission.

Safari to the Stone Age 6 Days / 5 Nights
Day 1: Nairobi
Arrive in Nairobi early in the morning, met and welcomed with our traditional style. Transfer to the hotel for breakfast and safari briefing by our tour manager. Depart for Olorgasaile which is a few kilometers from the main city. The site has yielded several maser concentrations of hand axes, cleavers and other stone artifacts belonging to the Acheulian traditions. Remains of many animals have also been found. Over night stay in a Nairobi hotel

Day 2: Nairobi – Fort Terna
After breakfast , depart for Fort Tena with a stop over at Hyrax hill museum arriving in Fort tena in the late afternoon where you will spend the over night. The site is middle Miocene aged palaeontological site dated by potassium – argon dating to 14 mya. It is a type – site of the hominid Kenyapithecus wickeri.

Day 3: Fort Terna-Chesowanya.
Continue with your safari to Chasowanya via Songor which is small but rich site notable for its diversity of fossils in primates like proaimians. Arrive in Chesowanya in the after noon where you will learn about the site where tools from the beds consist of core tools and flakes of Oldowan type.

Day 4: Chasowanya- Tugen Hills
After breakfast, depart for Tugen hills where you will be assisted by well informed informants on the historical and archeological importance of the site and the adjacent area.

Day 5: Nakuru
After breakfast, depart for the famous Lake Nakuru national park or pink lake where you will watch millions of migratory birds as well as big game like the rhinos, giraffe, and leopard, antelopes, baboons and water bucks among others.

Day 6: Departure
Depart for Nairobi city arriving in time for lunch with a visit to the museum in the after noon and a city tour. Transfer to the airport for a flight back home.Read More
